BEAR VS CAR

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30377190/

In honor of coming up to colorado springs, i thought i would check the current events so that I know whats going on in the community. I came across this story which really made me think. Now at first glance it may not seem like much but if you think about it, as I have plenty of time to do, its very interesting. The first thing I thought about was would i rather face a bear or get hit by a car. You might immediatley say "get hit by a car!" but lets think about this for a sec. There are supposed defenses to an attacking bear:

1. play dead

2. make your self as big as possible and scream like crazy in order to scare the bear

3. punch the bear in the nose (why do they always say to hit ferocious animals in the nose"

where as there is not much you can do while getting hit by a car, sure you can sort of roll with it or turn your back towards the car but your going to get hit. However im sure if you put a bear infront of me i would run faster and longer then a kenyan in the Boston Marathon, but there was more to this story that puzzled me...for example im having a hard time believing this woman is outrunning any bear.

im pretty sure this girl could have gone with option #2 in my "bear survival' options.

which brings me to the next point of who the hell is the person that hit her. Its not like this girl "came out of nowhere" her "fleeing" was probably about as fast as a kid with no legs running under water. Then this guy pulls over but leaves before authorities come?!?!? you either hit & run or you stay. You can't go both ways here. This would be like driving someone to the hospital after shooting them in the back without them knowing its you.

My final issue with this story is this part "The agency says it has captured a bear, but it isn't immediately clear whether the animal was the one chasing Swendsen." How are they going to become clear. Are they going to have some sort of lineup or something. Im not sure why this story has me so purplexed but it does. I look forward to further details.
